If you have a low-quality photo, don’t discard it just yet. Thanks to AI technology, there are ways to save most photographs with a single click using an AI image enhancer.

It doesn’t matter if you’ve scanned an old picture that’s fading or you have a low-resolution photo full of noise – AI photo enhancers can fix most of these issues.

There are many AI tools to tackle any given problem you might have with a photograph. However, AI Photo enhancers aim to make an overall improvement.

These tools do a number of things, and each software chooses which actions to take to enhance a picture. That’s why you may get significantly different results from one to the other.

LetsEnhance.io

The LetsEnhance.io image enhancer uses AI technology to fix pixelation and blur, correct color and lighting, remove jpeg artifacts, and upscale your picture.

This is one of the most professional solutions I could find for AI image enhancement online, and it’s my personal favorite. It has multiple settings to customize the tool, as well as some advanced features.

Don’t worry, though – it’s still very easy to use. Customization is simple: just select from preset options, toggle extra features on or off, and adjust the intensity with a slider when available.

This is important because, as you’ve seen by now, ‘enhancing’ can mean many different things depending on the website you use. Using LetsEnhance, you can stay in control without requiring any experience at all before using it.

All the settings you choose to enhance one image can be applied to the next one with a single click. Plus, you can easily see in the history which settings were applied to each photo you’ve enhanced.

I like that the upscale feature allows you to set the width and height and not just work with factors. That said, you can also use factors if you prefer, and it supports up to 16x.

Once the processing is done, you can use the comparison slider to see the before and after versions.

It handles files as big as 50MB, which can be uploaded from your computer or imported from Google Drive. The results can be shared from the platform or saved in JPEG or PNG format.

When you create an account, you get 10 free credits, which include downloading the images without a watermark. Once you run out of credits, you can earn more by inviting friends.

Alternatively, you can choose to subscribe or to buy more credits. In both cases, the starting price is $9.

Of course, the latter has the benefit of being commitment-free. It’s up to you to choose what’s best.

Imglarger

I really like Imglarger because it has a free version and not just a free trial. Others are offering this but with fewer credits per month or other limitations.

To try Imglarger, you don’t need to create an account. Use it a few times, and if you’re convinced, you can create a free account and get 100 monthly credits. Consider that any AI tool costs one credit every time you use it.

If you stick with the free version, you’ll get a few limitations, though. For example, the maximum size is 800px.

I noticed the AI enhancement tool gives good results regarding color and contrast. However, it won’t do much sharpening on objects – portraits are OK.

There is a separate AI sharpener you can use if you’re not satisfied – but then it becomes a multi-step process, and each one consumes credits.

The same happens with upscaling. Most AI image enhancers also upscale your picture. Sometimes, you can’t disable this step even if you want to keep the same size.

So, Imglarger is the perfect tool if you don’t need to upscale your photo. If you do, then you need to use the AI upscaler after the enhancer. This means spending two credits – three if you also use the sharpener.

These and all the other AI tools are available on the free account and can be used with the included credits.

I found Imglarger to be a bit slower than other online photo enhancers. The time is, however, very tolerable – especially since it’s free.

If you need to work with bigger files, you’ll need to upgrade to the paid version, which supports 10MB files with images up to 4000px on the larger side.

Snapedit.app

Snapedit is another helpful website if you want to enhance your photos using AI without downloading any software.

I appreciate that they offer a free version, but there’s a catch I should tell you right off the bat. You’ll only be able to download images with watermarks.

On the plus side, you get 10 free credits each month, which can be used in any of their AI tools.

The photo enhancer requires two credits. You also get to try the tool for free before creating the account. This trial won’t be detracted from the 10 credits you get when signing in.

Another limitation of the free account is the upscale size and factor. You can only use the 2x upscale tool, which supports a maximum of 1600px. Instead, the Pro account will give you a 2x factor for photos up to 2400px and a 4x factor for photos up to 5600px.

Depending on the file type, you can enhance your pictures using the Standard, Art Image, or Restore models. These are all available on the free version.

The Pro account also allows you to use the Magic one with customizable settings.

I noticed that regardless of your chosen AI model, it does a much better job with portraits. Browsing through the site, I found that they do say that on the first page. Of course, like most people, I didn’t read that beforehand because I jumped right into the uploading option and started using it.

So, they are open about it, and I can confirm. Of course, it’s not that it doesn’t work in other types of pictures – you’ll just get better results when there’s a person in the photo.

It’s also possible to continue editing your photo, but some AI features are only for Pro users.

If you like the results and decide to upgrade to a paid version, there are three tiers starting at $5 – which I find quite affordable compared to other tools.

On top of the other perks, the paid membership also allows batch processing. This can be a big time-saver if you want to enhance an extensive collection from an older camera or the scanned files of your family photos.

Beware that the Pro account is the second pricing tier. So, the $5 membership doesn’t give you access to some features mentioned here, such as the Magic model.

Make sure you review the pricing chart carefully before choosing which membership is better for you.

PicWish

PicWish is another option if you’re looking for an AI enhancer that offers a free account. In this case, you’ll get 10 downloads per day. On the plus side, you get your images without a watermark, even though it’s shown on the preview.

Unfortunately, you can’t get a high-resolution download with the free account. So, if you need to enhance more images each day or you need them bigger, you’ll need to become a paying user.

To do so, you can choose between a subscription plan and the pay-as-you-go model. Since membership is always a better deal than buying credits, I appreciate that they offer short-term plans. In fact, you can subscribe for just a week.

The longer you commit, the more you get. Conversely, you can stick with buying credits as you go and still get good savings. They offer many different packages, and the bigger ones have a very low cost per credit.

In any case, I like that even though it’s not a customizable tool, you can still choose between the different models and enable a few extras. If you’re working with portraits, choose the Face model, and you can also apply the Beautify feature.

You can enable the Colorize feature for older pictures, and for anything with text on it, you can choose the Text model. You can stick with the General model for anything else and get very good results.

There’s a V2 Beta of the enhancer, but it costs more credits. You may want to try it if you’re unsatisfied with the default results.

The enhanced picture always shows up with a watermark. Don’t worry, though. All downloads – including the free ones – remove the watermark.

Another good thing about PicWish is that it has a mobile version.

Picsart

Picsart is another online AI image enhancer you can try for free that allows you to download a low-resolution version without a watermark.

You don’t need to create an account to use this free trial. You can even move on to the editor and continue working on the enhanced photo. However, to download an edited photo, you need to sign in regardless of whether you used pro or free tools.

If you only use the AI enhancer, then you can download your image without an account. You can compare the final result with the original by clicking on the before and after button.

I found that the enhancer is not very effective with objects, but it does a good job with portraits. My only issue was that the skin can sometimes lose texture and look fake – though this varies from portrait to portrait.

I noticed that the first time I tried the enhancement tool, it was very fast; the second time, it became slower; and the third, it was very slow. This is probably a limitation of the free trial, though.

If you wish, you can create a free account and get five credits per week, which you can use for the generative AI tools. You’ll also get access to all the standard editing tools, some templates, and 100 MB of cloud storage.

AIEASE

AIEASE has a good AI enhancer for your portraits – although sometimes the intensity of the effect may make it look fake.

I found that landscapes and objects didn’t have as good results. However, it is excellent as a hassle-free option.

You can try the AIEASE enhancer without creating an account. If you like the results and want to download your enhanced picture, you need to log in. It supports Google login if you don’t want to create an account.

The AI image enhancer also upscales your photos – you can choose between 2x and 4x. It supports files of up to 2MB.

It’s also possible to select Art Image for non-photographic files or Colorize to restore and colorize old photographs. If you’re working on a regular photograph, simply choose General Enhance.

AIEASE is free to use, and you can download the results without a watermark. Not only that, but they also grant commercial use, which I found pretty generous.

What I didn’t like about it is that I can’t disable the upscale feature, but that’s a common thing among AI image enhancers.

I also found the Zoom tool awkward. Once you get the enhanced image, you can use the slider to compare the before and after versions at 100%.

However, there isn’t a zoom slider, you can’t input the percentage, and the target icon next to it didn’t work. So, I tried using my laptop’s trackpad, and I could jump into 1000%, but that was it – no middle ground.

After many attempts, I got a 666% zoom once, but it was by chance and I couldn’t adjust any further.

On a more positive note, I found providing feedback on each result very easy. I appreciate this, and it makes me trust that they will continue to improve.

AIEASE has many other AI tools to edit your images further. Keep in mind that they remain in your history for 7 days.

Fotor Online

Fotor’s AI enhancer online can improve the colors and sharpen details, enhancing your photograph. Once that’s done, it will ask you if you want to upscale (increase the image resolution of your photos) by 2x.

However, if you choose None (instead of 2x) to skip the upscaling option, the Apply button gets disabled. I found this quite baffling. It’s unclear if you just need to close the upscaler to enhance the picture without making it bigger or if it’s necessary to apply the upscale to get the improvement.

In any case, before you apply anything, you’ll see a preview with a watermark. If the Results Comparison option is checked, you’ll have a slider to see the before and after, making it easier to evaluate the results.

I found the AI enhancer to be extremely good – especially with objects and scenes. The enhanced photographs were sharper and noise-free. When it comes to the people in the photo, it definitely enhances the quality.

As with other enhancers, it can sometimes smooth the skin far too much and end up looking over-processed. That said, the overall results are good.

After applying, you’re redirected to the editing page, where you can continue working on your image if needed.

All this process is free forever – there’s no limit on how many images you can upload and preview. You won’t even need to create an account.

However, to remove the watermark and download the image, you’ll need to subscribe to Fotor Pro.

You can choose between a JPEG or PNG file. When you choose JPEG, you can select the quality from the available presets or adjust it with a slider.

Fotor Pro and Fotor Pro+ are pretty affordable. It’s important not to confuse the Fotor subscription with the AI credits. The credits are only helpful for generative AI. Therefore, even if you have some credits from the reward center, they can’t be used to download the enhanced photos.

Fotor also has an AI video enhancer.

• Best AI Tools for Extending Photos

Cutout.pro

Cutout.pro offers an AI-powered photo enhancement tool that sharpens and upscales your images online. You’ll also find an anime enhancer and a video enhancer.

As you land on the Home page, go to the Product menu and find “Photo Enhancer – Sharpener and Upscaler.” Click on it to get redirected to the tool’s page.

You’ll find a big red button to upload your photo here – you can’t miss it. You’ll also find an embedded YouTube video showing you how to use Cutout.pro Photo Enhancer (not that it’s difficult, though).

There is a size limit of 4096×4096 and 15MB. You can try the service for free without creating an account for a couple of images – you’ll even get to download the enhanced image.

Then, you’ll get five credits to use on any of their AI tools – the enhancer uses two credits.

It’s possible to earn more free credits by inviting friends. If you’re satisfied, you can buy credits to use as you go or subscribe to a membership plan.

They have multiple options to suit every need. The pricing for the credits starts at US$2.99 for 3 credits and the lowest subscription tier is US$5 with 40 credits per month.

I have to say that I found Cutout.pro to be an easy and hassle-free option that delivers excellent results for portraits and other subjects. I strongly recommend it if you don’t need customizable tools or further editing.

YouCam

YouCam doesn’t have a free account. However, there is a free trial.

As you land on the website, you can immediately try it without creating an account. Unfortunately, you’ll have to sign in if you want to download the enhanced pictured.

Don’t worry about the watermark, it will be removed from the download.

You can choose the format of your download between JPEG and PNG, and choose the quality of the JPEG. You’ll only get three for free.

The results are good, and I liked how easily you can zoom in and out of the image to determine whether you’re satisfied with the results before downloading. This is particularly important if you’re in the free trial because it counts the downloads, not the picture you enhance.

YouCam has many other editing tools – both AI-powered and traditional ones.

If you’re convinced after the free trial, you can get a subscription or buy credits as you go. Even though it doesn’t have a free version, it’s an affordable option that offers consistent results.

What is the best free AI photo enhancer?

All free AI photo enhancers have limitations. So, the best one depends on what you need. If you have to enhance a big batch of photos fast, Imglarger is best because it offers 100 credits per month. This is better than others, which may give more credits overall but set a daily limit.
