Hi,
My name is Aleksandra, and I’m a Polish documentary photographer based in Barcelona, Spain.
I studied economics but after a few years working in banking, I realized that it was not for me. So, I switched from Excel to a camera and a few lenses.
I studied photojournalism and reportage, and since 2016, I have documented social issues and social problems that I found interesting and important.
I lived in Uganda and in India, where I worked on three different projects – street children, tuberculosis, and beliefs and death in Hinduism.
Now, I live in Barcelona, where I work with brands and companies, mostly shooting corporate events, conferences, fashion shows, and business portraits.
I believe that I am a storyteller and my camera is a great tool that helps me to show those stories to the world.
The brand of camera was never important to me as I just wanted to take photos. So when I started, I was looking for a nice camera for a beginner and I bought a Canon.
Why? Because the second-hand Canon EOS 60D was the only decent camera that I could afford when I started photography.
I then I bought a lens Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 and learned the basics. As I improved, I started to change my gear, considering the type of photos that I was taking.
I moved to a Canon EOS 5D Mark II, then Canon EOS 5D Mark III, and now I’m shooting with a Canon EOS 5D Mark IV.
Canon EOS 5D Mark IV – I love the quality of the images from this camera. It is fast, and I’m so used to Canon cameras, and it is easy for me to work with them.
When I shoot an event, I need to focus on composition, lighting, and the person, so I need to know my gear really well.
Canon EF 35mm f/1.4 – this lens gives me high-quality images, and it has a big aperture, so it is great in places with no light, like events and conferences. As a documentary photographer, I love to shoot images without distortion.
With this lens, I can get close to the person I photograph and still show the surroundings to keep the context and show a bigger story.
Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8 – when I have to choose only one lens, I will choose this one because of its versatility. The quality of the images is outstanding, and when traveling, you need a lens that you can trust in any condition.
I did the whole project about street children in Uganda with only this lens!
DJI Mini 2 – I just started to shoot videos a few months ago and I already love it!
It gives me a totally different perspective, and I can create more interesting content for myself and for my clients. As a traveler, you can explore the world from a wide new angle!
Godox V860II-C – it is an easy flash to use, it is fast, the quality of light is great, and it is just enough for my needs.
Godox V1-C– I bought the second flash for those just-in-case moments. The light is soft, and the battery lasts a long time.
Lightroom – I edit all my photos with Lightroom. It is easy to use and inexpensive, and for what I do, it is totally enough. The user interface is very easy, and after years of using it, I can edit an image in thirty seconds!
Pic-time – I use Pic-time to deliver photos to my clients. It looks beautiful and professional, and again, easy to use.
My clients can download photos in two different sizes, which gives more value to my photography service.
Apple MacBook Pro – I use it because it is fast and because it has a great retina display.
SanDisk Extreme Pro – I have a few cards of 64 GB and 128 GB, and when I go to a shoot, I always take two or three of these.
Toshiba Hard Disc 1 TB – I have a few of these as well because when the images are all RAW, you really need a lot of storage space.
Photography is an amazing art that gives me a lot of fun and makes my life more beautiful, more interesting, and more creative.
Thanks to photography, I learned to look at the world from a different perspective and tell stories that are important to me.
Sometimes, photographic work can be difficult, but I will never go back to the office.
